How to say "it's delicious" in Thai (with phonetics)
อร่อยมากเลย
à-rɔ̀i mâak ləəi
It's really delicious.
When you are telling the cook you liked the food, this is the everyday way to say "it's delicious" in Thai.
Tips
- Add a polite particle at the end. A man says อร่อยมากเลยครับ (à-rɔ̀i mâak ləəi khráp). A woman says อร่อยมากเลยค่ะ (à-rɔ̀i mâak ləəi khâ).
- Tone tip: say à-rɔ̀i flat and low, both syllables, not rising or high. Then mâak falls from high to low, and ləəi stays level in the middle of your voice.
- You can shorten it to just อร่อย (à-rɔ̀i) or อร่อยมาก (à-rɔ̀i mâak). Adding เลย sounds friendlier to the cook.
Word by word
- อร่อย à-rɔ̀i: delicious, tasty (Low tone on both syllables.)
- มาก mâak: very, a lot (Falling tone, long vowel.)
- เลย ləəi: (emphasis particle: really, so) (Makes it warm and natural. Mid tone, long vowel.)
Say it your own way
Type it half in English, half in Thai, spelled any way you like: Thinglish works out what you meant and gives you the Thai with tones and a native voice.
