Thinglish

Privacy

Thinglish is made by Samix Technology (EI Evan Barke), Saint-Cyprien, France, the data controller. Contact: contact@samix-technology.com. Last updated 24 October 2026.

The app

No account. You do not sign up and we never ask for your name, email, phone number, contacts, location or photos. There are no ads, no analytics or tracking tools, and nothing is shared with advertisers or data brokers.

Microphone. The app records only while you hold the microphone button. That recording is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to OpenAI to turn it into text, and then discards it. We never store your recordings.

What you say or type. The text of your sentence, with the last few turns of the conversation for context, goes to Anthropic (Claude), which writes the tutor's answer. The tutor's reply is sent to OpenAI to be read aloud in a native voice. Our server passes these on and does not store them. Under their API terms, OpenAI and Anthropic do not use this data to train their models and keep it only for a limited period (up to 30 days) for abuse and safety checks, after which it is deleted.

On your phone. Your conversations, your language choices and a random device key are kept in the app's own storage on your phone. Deleting the app (or clearing its data) deletes them.

On our server. The random device key (we keep only a scrambled hash of it) and, for each turn, a usage record: the date, the kind of turn, the model, the languages, the amount of text processed, seconds of audio and the cost. Never the words themselves. We use these to apply the free daily limit and to keep costs in check. They are not linked to your name, email or phone. To stop abuse, your IP address is held in memory for up to a day (at most 5 new devices per address per day) and appears in our web server's technical logs, which are kept for a short time for security.

Legal basis: providing the service you ask for (the tutor), and our legitimate interest in preventing abuse and controlling costs.

Children: Thinglish is not aimed at children under 13.

Delete your data: delete the app to remove everything on your phone, including the device key. The usage records left on our server hold no content and only the scrambled key, so once the app is gone nobody, us included, can link them to you or your phone.

The website and waitlist

What we keep when you join the waitlist: your email, the launch price you were shown, where the link came from, and your optional answers (the language you want, what you think of the price, the sentence you want to say).

Why: to invite you when Thinglish opens and to choose the launch price. Legal basis: your consent, given when you join. We email you about Thinglish only, never sell or share your email, and delete it when you leave the waitlist or when the test ends without a launch.

Visits: we count page visits by link source and price shown. We do not store your IP address or use tracking or advertising cookies; two small cookies only remember which price you saw and where you came from, so the page stays the same for you.

Your rights

Leave the waitlist at any time with the link on the confirmation page or in any email. You can ask us to see, correct or delete your data by email (contact@samix-technology.com) or through the contact page. You can also complain to the CNIL (cnil.fr).

Processors: OpenAI (speech to text, voice), Anthropic (tutor), both in the United States under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses; our server is in France.
